WEEK 1- ACADEMIC FORMALIZATION OF CASINO DANCE
ACADEMIC FORMALIZATION OF CASINO DANCE
(Doctrinal Development – MCC 5.0)
By: Yoel Marrero
Author of the Método del Cuadro del Casino (MCC)
The evolution of Casino Dance inevitably leads to a fundamental necessity: its academic formalization.
After stages of genesis, expansion, exportation, and deformation, Casino stands as a rich and widely spread phenomenon, yet lacking a structured system for rigorous understanding, transmission, and reproduction.
Academic formalization is an epistemological requirement. It marks the transition from implicit knowledge to explicit knowledge, from spontaneous practice to conscious system.
This chapter develops this process through three axes: the history of the MCC, the academic formalization of Cuban social dances, and MCC version 5.0.
1. History of the MCC
The MCC emerged from a sustained process of observation, analysis, and modeling.
Its foundation lies in the systematic study of footwork and choreographic trajectories, identifying patterns previously undescribed.
This process included:
Decomposition into elementary units
Graphical representation of trajectories
Comparison between real execution and models
Validation through reproducibility
These observations evolved into a coherent theoretical system.
2. Academic formalization of Cuban social dances
Formalization means recognizing these dances as legitimate scientific objects.
It involves:
Defining structural components
Establishing precise nomenclature
Developing notation systems
Identifying operational principles
Establishing evaluation criteria
Formalization does not replace tradition; it makes it conscious and transmissible.
3. The Casino Square Method, version 5.0
MCC 5.0 is based on the coreogram as the structural map of the dance.
It develops:
Choreographic navigation theory
Structural theory
Lead and follow theory
Technical optimization theory
The result is the Well-Formed Casino Dance, combining cultural essence with structural clarity.
Final considerations
Academic formalization is a natural consequence of complexity.
The MCC does not replace tradition; it organizes and enhances it.
The transition to formalization refines spontaneity rather than eliminating it.
